Cambridgeshire Constabulary says illegal tobacco and vaping products were seized after a multi-agency operation in St Neots.

According to the force’s 24 September update, Huntingdonshire Licensing officers worked with Cambridgeshire Police, Trading Standards and HM Revenue and Customs on inspections carried out on 16 September. Police said the visits led to the seizure of 15,420 illegal cigarettes, 5.65kg of hand-rolling tobacco and 37 illegal vaping products from three locations.

The release does not identify the vaping products or set out the specific compliance failures alleged. That matters for readers because UK vape rules cover several different issues, including whether a nicotine product has been notified, tank size, labelling, nicotine strength and, since June 2025, whether a product is single-use.

Why it matters

For adult smokers and vapers, the practical point is not that every unfamiliar product is illegal. It is that illicit supply can remove the usual checks on labelling, product identity and retailer accountability. GOV.UK’s current consumer e-cigarette guidance says nicotine-containing e-cigarettes and e-liquids must be notified and published before sale, and sets limits including 2ml tank capacity and 20mg/ml nicotine strength.

The separate UK single-use vape ban also means businesses cannot sell, supply or stock disposable vapes for sale, whether or not they contain nicotine. Reusable products must have a rechargeable battery and a refillable container, with separately available refills or replacement parts where relevant.

Cambridgeshire Police described the St Neots action as part of continuing work against illicit tobacco and nicotine supply. Readers with concerns about a retailer should use official reporting routes rather than relying on packaging claims or social media listings.
